Health Minister Kamil Šaško (Hlas-SD) announced that nurses and midwives in hospitals will receive a monthly allowance of €250 starting in 2026. The measure aims to improve salaries and stabilize staffing in Slovakia’s healthcare system. Union leader Monika Kavecká said the agreement is a crucial step to stop nurses from leaving hospitals. The minister added that a new human resources plan will be developed with unions to ensure long-term retention and attract new professionals.
