Planned Parliamentary Session on Ukraine Aid

Slovakia’s Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) plans to call a special parliamentary session on financing Ukraine’s military spending for 2026 and 2027. After a government meeting in Višňové, he said Slovakia will not provide any financial guarantees or contributions for military purposes, adding that the country’s assistance will remain strictly humanitarian. He also reacted to reports that the United States may reduce its military presence on NATO’s eastern flank, possibly affecting Slovakia. The Prime Minister said the move would not pose a threat and called it a rational decision reflecting U.S. priorities. He added that European countries should spend defense funds more efficiently through joint projects within the EU and NATO.
