The government plans to restart Slovakia’s spa industry through new measures aimed at improving healthcare efficiency. Health Minister Kamil Šaško (Hlas-SD) said after Wednesday’s cabinet meeting in Rajecké Teplice that spa treatment can help reduce hospitalization costs and the use of medicines. A pilot program will link hospitals with spa facilities to test the benefits of continued care after hospitalization. The ministry will also prepare a proposal for an international agreement on spa cooperation and examine ways to support spa regions through EU funds. Another goal is to consider introducing a special “spa municipality” status for certain areas. The Slovak Spa Association welcomed the move, saying it’s an important step toward giving spa care a stronger role in the country’s healthcare and tourism systems.
