President Pellegrini Marks 107 Years Since Martin Declaration

Slovak President Peter Pellegrini highlighted the importance of the Martin Declaration on the 107th anniversary of its adoption. The declaration in 1918 expressed the Slovak nation’s decision to join the Czechoslovak Republic as a common state with the Czechs. Pellegrini emphasized that the adoption of the declaration was the result of an agreement among dozens of national figures, and that the Slovak stance was key to the legitimacy of Czechoslovakia’s founding. The president expressed hope that today’s political representatives would show the same courage, ability to reach agreements, and responsibility as the Slovak ancestors did over a century ago in Martin.
