MPs approved an amendment by Ľubomír Vážný (Smer-SD), which sets the walking speed at a maximum of 6 km/h. The aim is to give a more precise speed limit for cyclists, scooters or skaters on sidewalks.
At the same time, the age limit for mandatory medical examinations for drivers is being increased from 65 to 70 years. The changes, which were pushed through by the former Minister of Transport, are to apply from next year.
The intention to limit the speed for cyclists or scooters was criticized by the Cyklokoalícia association, according to which it drives children out onto the roads and does not help pedestrian safety.
Only coalition members voted in favor of the amendment, the opposition abstained or was against.
