Opposition Calls for Dismissal of SIS Head Pavol Gašpar

Pavol Gašpar is unfit to lead the Slovak Information Service (SIS), lacking professionalism, integrity, and self-reflection, said Progressive Slovakia leader Michal Šimečka in response to Gašpar’s remarks on a Sunday TV debate. Šimečka criticized Gašpar for trivializing his car accident involving a minor and for downplaying statements about a “state coup,” removing EU and NATO flags, and his tattoo of a mafia figure.

Šimečka added that PS, together with SaS, KDH, and Democrats, will call an extraordinary parliamentary session to dismiss Gašpar.

Za ľudí party leader Veronika Remišová also accused Gašpar of failing to deny allegations of spying on and intimidating MPs during the recent government crisis, raising concerns about possible misuse of the secret service to maintain power.

Gašpar stated he would resign only if there are legal grounds for his dismissal, which he claims his traffic incident does not constitute.
