Slovak Police Investigate Kotlár Over COVID-19 Vaccine Claims

Slovak police have reportedly launched a criminal investigation into government plenipotentiary Peter Kotlár over spreading false claims about the safety and efficacy of mRNA COVID-19 vaccines, the opposition party SaS said. SaS filed the complaint in March, after Kotlár claimed that genetic material in vaccines could alter human DNA, a statement widely rejected by experts. Bratislava police have neither confirmed nor denied the investigation, citing ongoing proceedings.

SaS leaders say the case highlights risks to public health and called for Kotlár’s dismissal. Kotlár’s supporters, including Prime Minister Robert Fico and National Council Deputy Speaker Tibor Gašpar (both Smer-SD), defended him, describing him as honest and diligent. Fico stressed that even amid the investigation, he stands by Kotlár, praising his commitment to his work during the pandemic. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not yet issued formal charges.
