Sliač Airport Undergoing Major Reconstruction

Slovak President Peter Pellegrini says the Sliač military airport is undergoing the largest reconstruction in its history. The upgraded base will host Slovakia’s new F-16 fighter jets and meet 21st-century security and infrastructure standards. Work includes new taxiways, aircraft stands, and modernized hangars for both parked and standby jets. About 70 million euros have been invested so far, with much of the cost reimbursed through NATO. The renovation is scheduled for completion in 2027, and construction is also being carried out to allow for the possible return of civilian air traffic. Pellegrini emphasized that restoring passenger flights would be vital for central Slovakia’s connectivity and regional development.
