President Peter Pellegrini is in contact with Slovak security services following reports that Slovak national Peter Švestka was detained by Israeli forces while attempting to deliver aid to Gaza.
The President’s Office said that if confirmed, state authorities must do everything possible to assist him. Israeli forces stopped most of the flotilla’s vessels on Wednesday, sending crews to Ashdod for deportation. Švestka’s whereabouts remain unclear.
Amnesty International has urged the Slovak government to act swiftly to secure his safety and release. The Foreign Ministry said it has been in contact with Israeli authorities via the Slovak Embassy in Tel Aviv since Wednesday evening.
