The Spišská Nová Ves company Embraco Slovakia began mass layoffs at the end of August. According to the plant director, André Bublitz, this is an unpopular but necessary measure. However, it is a reaction to the overall decline in global demand for compressors in the commercial refrigeration segment.
The mass layoffs will affect approximately 100 people in various positions over the course of three months.
The largest employer in the region has been facing a significant decline in demand in the commercial compressor segment since spring. "This is a last resort, as we have already exhausted all available options for reversing the negative effects and maintaining full employment," said Bublitz. After the current changes, approximately 1,300 employees should remain working at the plant.
