Slovakia’s parliament is debating a bill on targeted energy aid that would cover nearly 90 percent of households. The measure, discussed in fast-track proceedings, is set to replace the blanket compensation scheme at the end of this year. The government has earmarked €435 million from EU funds, but details remain unclear — including whether support will come as vouchers or direct bill reductions. Critics warn the system could end up more expensive than universal aid.
MPs also approved an SNS proposal to exempt sole traders and other self-employed individuals from the financial transaction tax on Tuesday. The amendment will take effect from the start of next year.
