Slovak President Peter Pellegrini on Tuesday urged the UN Security Council in New York to work for an end to the war in Ukraine.
He stressed that as a neighboring country, Slovakia is deeply concerned. The war’s consequences go beyond Ukraine, threatening global peace, security, and justice. Pellegrini reminded that the UN Charter was created to prevent aggression against sovereign states and said it must be firmly defended.
He underlined that the war has lasted for over 1,300 days and is not just a European problem but also a global one. According to him, peace efforts require three steps: ending the fighting, mediated negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, and security guarantees for Ukraine.
