Protests organised by opposition parties PS, SaS, KDH, and the extra-parliamentary Democrats party against austerity measures under the consolidation of public finances took place in Bratislava, Košice, Banská Bystrica, Žilina and other towns and cities across Slovakia on Tuesday evening.
"Being unable to cut its own costs, the government raises the people's social and health insurance payments and taxes, while at the same time abolishing public holidays," said the organisers.
The largest protest was in Bratislava, where an estimated 10,000 people, according to the organizers, gathered on the square in front of the Government Office.
Protests are also held in Prešov, Trnava, Nitra, Trenčín, Bardejov, Trenčín, Liptovský Mikuláš, Lučenec, Považská Bystrica, Ružomberok, Senica, Spišská Nová Ves, Pezinok, Myjava, Martin, Rimavská Sobota, Revúca and Svidnik.
