Health Ministry to Continue Promoting Importance of Vaccinations

The Health Ministry will continue to actively inform the public about the importance of vaccination, Health Minister Kamil Šaško (Hlas-SD) declared in a statement made by Education Minister Tomas Drucker (Hlas-SD) during Thursday's parliamentary Question Time.

The statement was made in response to a query by MP Ondrej Prostrednik (PS) about how the ministry plans to combat disinformation related to vaccines, such as those against whooping cough.

"Vaccination against diseases such as whooping cough, measles and polio is mandatory in Slovakia and has been promoted by the medical community for decades," the statement read. "One of the most successful health-care programmes in the country is the National Immunisation Program, thanks to which many serious diseases have long been eradicated in Slovakia."

Šaško emphasised that the Health Ministry, in cooperation with the Public Health Authority, regional public health offices, ministry experts and the Slovak Society of Epidemiology and Vaccinology will continue to engage with both medical professionals and the general public to raise awareness about the benefits of vaccination.

He further stated that, should additional funding for preventive health care become available, the ministry is prepared to launch and implement targeted information campaigns.
