Hlas-SD Supports Calls to Stop Killing in Gaza Strip

The Hlas-SD party supports the calls of the international community to stop the killing of civilians in the Gaza Strip and to allow humanitarian and medical aid for the people in the region, party chairman and Interior Minister Matúš Šutaj Eštok posted on a social network. The post was in response to the conclusions of the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council investigators that Israel is committing genocide there.  He added that the party no longer considers the state of the conflict between Israel and Hamas to be an objective defence of Israel, but a blanket killing of civilians.

"We agree that every state has the right to defend itself. We condemn in the strongest possible terms the savage attack on Israel and the atrocities committed by Hamas terrorists. But defending ourselves doesn't mean killing civilians and starvation. None of the children who are being killed in this war were involved in the murder and kidnapping of hostages from Israel. Today, these children and the entire population in the Gaza Strip are starving, their homes are being targeted and they are dying in large numbers every day," stated Šutaj Eštok.

UN Human Rights Council investigators said on Tuesday they had concluded that Israel has been committing "genocide with the intent to destroy the Palestinian people" in the Palestinian Gaza Strip since October 2023.
