The Coalition Council meeting concluded today at the Government Office, but hot-button issues were largely avoided. Although expectations were high that ministers would address fiscal consolidation measures, Deputy Speaker of Parliament Andrej Danko said the main focus was instead on preparations for tomorrow’s parliamentary session.
Following the meeting, Danko stated that discussions on cost-cutting within the state administration are still ongoing and acknowledged that some government offices may be merged or dissolved.
Coalition leaders agreed that the upcoming parliamentary session will not include topics lacking political consensus. According to Danko, this applies, for example, to proposals such as tax-free 13th and 14th salaries and certain legislative changes.
Finance Minister Ladislav Kamenický has yet to present the specifics of next year’s consolidation plan. He is expected to outline the planned austerity measures at a press conference on Tuesday.
