The government has approved an amendment to the Environmental Impact Assessment Act to speed up renewable energy projects. The proposal, which parliament will debate in a fast-track procedure, links the environmental assessment process with the Building Act and pollution prevention rules.
According to the Environment Ministry, the goal is to streamline permitting, ensure efficient use of EU recovery funds, and support the REpowerEU plan to reduce dependence on Russian fuels.
The amendment designates the Slovak Environmental Inspectorate as a special building authority for renewable energy facilities, excluding hydropower plants.
