Dubček State Prize Awarded on Constitution Day

On Slovakia’s Constitution Day, Prime Minister Robert Fico (SMER-SD) presented the Alexander Dubček State Prize to lawyer Štefan Grman, writer Jozef Banáš, and entrepreneur Jan Telensky. Established in 2018, the award recognizes exceptional artistic, sporting, business, research, or other socially significant achievements from the previous year. It also carries a financial reward equal to 25 times the national average monthly wage.

Fico said he hoped the prize, bearing Dubček’s name, would inspire the laureates in their future work. The award commemorates Alexander Dubček, leader of the 1968 Prague Spring, who sought to bring “socialism with a human face.”
