Pavol Gaspar, director of the Slovak Intelligence Service (SIS), was involved in a traffic accident on Saturday, August 30, in Nitra, where two passenger cars collided. A minor sustained injuries and was treated at a hospital.
Opposition parties, including Progressive Slovakia (PS), SaS, and the ‘Slovakia’ party, have called for Gaspar’s resignation. They accuse him of failing to declare the car involved in the crash in his property records and question his qualifications and driving conduct.
Gaspar refuted these claims, stating that the car was registered to a company where he was an authorized representative and partner before taking public office, and that he properly declared his stake in that company.
PS accused Gaspar of lacking the necessary qualifications for the SIS director role and alleged he was appointed primarily to protect the interests of his family. They view the traffic accident as part of several reasons for his resignation.
