An analysis by the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAV) on the safety of COVID-19 vaccines was not included on the agenda of Wednesday’s off-site government meeting in Senica. The topic will also be absent from next week’s cabinet session. Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) said the meetings were focused on other topics.
Released last Thursday, the analysis found vaccines contain only trace DNA levels, and that earlier concerns were due to procedural errors or misinterpretations. President Peter Pellegrini is set to meet with Academy President Martin Venhart next week to discuss the findings.
Meanwhile, the coalition council continues talks on consolidating public finances for 2026. Prime Minister Fico has rejected increases in VAT or cuts to the second pension pillar, and confirmed that defence spending will remain at the internationally required 2% of GDP.
Moreover, Labour Minister Erik Tomáš (Voice-SD) intends to create a working group on the second pillar, inviting multiple stakeholders, including the opposition, which welcomed the initiative and stressed the importance of maintaining at least a four-percent contribution.
