Shipping on the Slovak section of the Danube River will not resume in the near future, according to the spokeswoman of the State Shipping Administration Jana Vadkertyova. Although the measuring station, which is located on the Danube banks near the city centre in Bratislava registered the water level falling under 7.5m already on Monday, ships continue to be threatened by various floating objects, such as trees.
Moreover, there is still a ban on shipping in Germany, Austria, and Hungary. The State Shipping Administration halted shipping on the River Danube in Slovakia on Monday, June 3, at 6pm CET. This applies to both passenger as well as freight shipping. High water levels of the Danube suspended work in ports, especially in the transhipment of goods. Renewal of operations in ports after the flood had receded could take two to four weeks.
