GIB EnergyX Slovakia has obtained a construction permit for its planned battery plant in the Šurany industrial park (Nitra region), the company announced Tuesday. The permit, issued Monday (August 18) by the Nitra Regional Office for Spatial Planning and Construction, allows prototype production facilities with a capacity of up to 1 gigawatt hour.
The permit covers production halls, warehouses, gatehouses, engineering networks, external power distribution, transformer stations, and temporary site structures.
The company stressed that all construction will comply with official conditions. "The decision confirms that the project, provided technical, safety and organizational measures are followed, poses no significant risk to the environment or local residents’ health," GIB EnergyX stated.
Meanwhile, in response to the construction permit the opposition movement Slovensko filed a criminal complaint with the Slovak General Prosecutor’s Office. Opposition MPs argue that the plant should not have received the permit without an EIA (Environmental Impact Assessment). The opposition Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) also criticized the decision, calling it premature and wrong. KDH MP Marián Čaučík warned that building such a large industrial complex is irreversible and that any confirmed risks to the environment or public health would cause permanent, irreparable damage.
