No Major Disputes over Education Laws after Slovak Economic and Social Council Session

No significant disagreements arose over draft education legislation during Monday’s meeting of the Slovak Economic and Social Council (HSR), Education Minister Tomáš Drucker (Hlas-SD) announced. He said disputes had been resolved in cooperation with social partners, with many objections withdrawn, allowing the proposals to move forward in the legislative process.

Drucker stressed that education reform is a long-term effort, noting most measures will take effect gradually rather than from January 2026. The package includes seven laws – three new and four amendments – covering school financing, secondary education, teacher and student protections, as well as new frameworks for higher education and special-needs facilities.

Following the session, Confederation of Trade Unions (KOZ SR) president Monika Uhlerová praised the quality of social dialogue, while the Slovak Association of Construction Entrepreneurs welcomed the proposals, particularly those improving vocational training and school governance.
