An incident during the Slovak National Festival in Bački Petrovac, Serbia, where photos documenting anti-government student protests were damaged and several people injured, has sparked political tension. The exhibition, organized by members of the Slovak minority, was disrupted by supporters of Serbia’s ruling party.
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico dismissed the incident as an internal Serbian political matter, unrelated to the status of the Slovak minority, and criticized the opposition for politicizing the event. Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár echoed this stance, stating that Slovakia will not interfere in Serbia's domestic affairs, though the Slovak embassy in Belgrade remains in contact with local Slovak organizations.
Opposition parties Progressive Slovakia (PS) and Freedom and Solidarity sharply criticized the government’s inaction and called for the immediate summoning of the Serbian ambassador. They accused the government of ignoring the concerns of the Slovak minority and failing to uphold diplomatic responsibility.
