Parliament to Debate No-Confidence Motion Against Health Minister

House Chair Richard Raši (Voice-SD) has convened an extraordinary session of Parliament for Wednesday to discuss the opposition’s proposal to dismiss Health Minister Kamil Šaško (Voice-SD).

Opposition MPs filed the motion last Friday, citing the controversial €2-billion ambulance service tender as the main issue. They accuse the tender process of lacking transparency and allege the winners were predetermined.

Speaking on television Sunday, Health Minister Šaško said he will file a complaint today with the Prosecutor-General’s Office and the Žilina District Court regarding the tender. He emphasised that no deal will proceed without his approval, and while only the Emergency Medical Service Operations Centre’s director can cancel the tender, he is exploring legal options including cancellation.

Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) has called for the immediate cancellation of the ambulance tender. He proposes temporarily extending licenses for current providers while preparing a new tender, citing tight deadlines linked to 2026 budget talks.

The Public Procurement Office has also flagged the tender for possible violations of EU regulations.
