Slovak President Peter Pellegrini says the planned summit between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska could bring a breakthrough in efforts to end the war in Ukraine.
Pellegrini called the meeting an important step toward a ceasefire, saying it should be followed by peace talks involving Ukraine, Russia, the US, and the EU. He stressed that security in Europe is seriously threatened and that all relevant actors, including Russia, must play a role in achieving peace.
Trump and Putin are due to meet in Alaska on August 15th to discuss possible ways to end the war. Trump has previously suggested Ukraine may have to make territorial concessions, an idea firmly rejected by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
