Company ‘Agel’ Denies Wrongdoing in Ambulance Tender

The Agel company has denied accusations of wrongdoing in Slovakia’s ambulance service tender. Spokesperson Nancy Závodská said on Wednesday that Agel purchased ambulances in advance with its own funds, before the tender terms were even announced, and without knowing the results. Agel also rejects any connections to members of the selection committee and warned it may take legal action over what it calls “politically motivated attacks.”

Opposition parties Progressive Slovakia and 'Slovakia' have called for the tender to be cancelled and restarted, accusing the process of lacking transparency and alleging political favouritism. Progressive Slovakia leader Michal Šimečka criticised Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) and Health Minister Kamil Šaško (Voice-SD) for being on holiday amid the controversy.

'Slovakia' party leader Igor Matovič urged the Prosecutor-General to investigate and offered support for emergency legislation to ensure a transparent tender process.
