The Devínska Kobyla observation tower has been recognised by ArchDaily, the world’s most-visited architecture website, as one of the 25 best lookout towers globally.
Opened in 2020, the 21-meter-tall tower (about the height of a seven-story building) offers panoramic views spanning Austria, Hungary, and Czechia. Visitors climb 112 steps to enjoy sights including Devín Castle, Austria’s Schloss Hof manor, Vienna, the Austrian Alps, and Zobor Hill near Nitra.
Architect Igor Lichý said the tower’s distinctive triangular design reflects its unique vantage point overlooking three countries. Its shape also resembles a praying mantis, an insect native to the region.
Situated at 514 meters above sea level on a former missile base surrounded by bunkers, the tower is accessible by foot or bike and offers free entry to all visitors.
