Parliamentary Speaker Richard Raši (Hlas-SD) hopes the coalition will revisit the idea of removing the single electoral district clause from the Slovak Constitution. Hlas-SD previously proposed the change as part of a constitutional amendment but failed to gain enough support in Parliament—even from coalition partners.
While some politicians see advantages in a single electoral district—such as fairer representation of minorities or other disadvantaged groups in Parliament—supporters of multiple districts argue it would increase the chances of regional politicians being elected.
Slovakia was originally divided into four electoral districts: eastern, central, western and Bratislava, but later changed to a single constituency under the government of Vladimir Meciar (1994-98).
