Earlier on Wednesday, Slovak police announced a joint operation with Czech and Ukrainian forces in the Ukrainian city of Dnipro, where one Ukrainian suspect was detained. The Czech police confirmed the operation, involving their National Centre against Terrorism, Extremism, and Cybercrime, and intelligence from the Security Information Service (BIS). The detained man is suspected of issuing bomb threats across several European countries, including Slovakia and the Czech Republic. The Security Information Service stated the suspect was likely funded by Russia.
The Slovak Police Corps denied accusations that they concealed information regarding the man detained in Ukraine, labelling such claims as conspiracy theories. The police emphasized on social media that the amount of information released to the public always depends on the specific circumstances and must not compromise ongoing criminal proceedings. This statement was issued in response to media reports highlighting criticism from Czech security agencies and the Slovak opposition that the Slovak police had reported on the case prematurely – against the wishes of the Czech side – while omitting the fact that the Ukrainian national was likely financed by Russian actors.
