Constitutional committee fails to address state of rule of law

The parliamentary constitutional committee did not discuss the state of the rule of law or the effects of a Penal Code amendment on Tuesday due to low attendance by coalition MPs.

Opposition members criticised the absence and have called for the committee to reconvene. The session was initiated by Progressive Slovakia MPs, who sought to question Justice Minister Boris Susko (Smer-SD) on alleged failures, including issues raised in the European Commission’s 2025 rule of law report and concerns about new Penal Code changes affecting entrepreneurs in the retail sector.
