The Slovak government is seeking guarantees that the cessation of Russian gas supplies from 2028 will not harm the country. According to Prime Minister Robert Fico, the European Commission is working on a solution for Slovakia. Due to rising gas prices, companies are already struggling to remain competitive. The prime minister was responding to criticism from German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who called on the Slovak government to stop blocking new sanctions against Russia. According to Fico, the new sanctions will not affect Russia’s military superiority or economic performance.
