School activities beyond the official curriculum must respect the principles of political, ideological, and religious neutrality. The right of parents to express disagreement with their child's participation in such activities must also be upheld, emphasized Education Minister Tomáš Drucker (Hlas) at a press briefing on Wednesday, where he rejected claims suggesting the indoctrination of certain ideologies through extracurricular programs.
The minister stated that he was responding to Tuesday's reports alleging that “progressive LGBTI indoctrination is taking place in schools,” as well as to concerns about an investigation into complaints regarding lectures on hoaxes and fraud. These lectures were organized by a civic association led by David Púchovský, assistant to Progressive Slovakia (PS) MP Jaroslav Spišiak.
Drucker reiterated that the ministry has published a detailed manual on its website outlining how schools should handle educational activities beyond the standard curriculum, even when informed parental consent is given. He stressed the legal requirement for political, ideological, and religious neutrality, and firmly opposed the idea that such educational activities should serve as a vehicle for spreading any ideology.
