The Anti-Corruption Unit of the Police Force Headquarters carried out a major operation in the districts of Košice and Zvolen under the code name KOLUMBIA. The investigation concerns fraud involving EU funds in a project worth more than €4.5 million, which was to be financed by the Košice Self-Governing Region and the Environment Ministry.
However, the work was not completed to the agreed extent, yet the entire amount was paid to the contractor. The damage to EU funds is estimated at approximately €3.5 million, with an additional €400,000 loss from the state budget.
The case is being supervised by the European Public Prosecutor’s Office, which has already initiated criminal proceedings.
