Prosecutor-General Maroš Žilinka has formally protested the Interior Ministry’s partial refusal to release the passenger list from a 2023 government flight to Germany for a European Championship football match.
The trip faced political backlash last month, with opposition parties accusing coalition politicians of misusing state resources. The Interior Ministry maintains the trip was official and based on invitations from the Union of European Football Associations and the Slovak Football Association.
Žilinka argued that the ministry failed to properly weigh privacy concerns against the public’s right to information. He called the decision arbitrary, stating that the public has a right to know how public funds are spent. Žilinka has called for the ministry’s refusal to be overturned and the appeal to be legally reviewed.
