President Peter Pellegrini was accompanied by Interior Minister Matúš Šutaj Eštok (HLAS) during his official visit to Croatia on Tuesday. As part of the trip, Šutaj Eštok met with Croatian Interior Minister, Davor Božinović.
The two ministers reaffirmed that strong police cooperation remains a pillar of national security. Migration was another key topic. Both ministers stressed the need to tackle the root causes of migration by working with countries of origin and transit.
While border efforts between Slovakia, Hungary, and Serbia have reduced migration flows, pressure has increased along Croatia’s border with Bosnia. Slovakia expressed support for joint patrols and a stronger presence of the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex) to secure the EU’s external Schengen borders.
