Slovakia eyes Croatian liquefied natural gas as transit uncertainty grows

Talks are underway between Slovakia and Croatia on the potential use of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal on the Croatian island of Krk, Slovak President Peter Pellegrini announced Tuesday during a visit to Zagreb. The discussions come amid disruptions to gas and oil transit through Ukraine, leaving Slovakia without stable supplies.

Slovak Economy Minister Denisa Saková (HLAS) echoed Pellegrini’s remarks, however stressed that restoring transit through Ukraine would be ideal — not only for energy stability but also to recover lost revenue, as Slovakia previously earned up to €700 million a year from gas transit.
