Suspected EU fund abuse in 76 Slovak districts

The European Commission, Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF), and European Public Prosecutor’s Office have been notified of 330 suspected cases of EU fund misuse in Slovakia, Czech MEP Tomáš Zdechovský said on Wednesday.

Following a fact-finding mission by the European Parliament’s Budgetary Control Committee, Zdechovský reported that irregularities were found in 76 out of 79 Slovak districts. He stated that the results are shocking as only three districts showed no issues. While more than 2,000 complaints were received, investigators secured documentation in 330 cases.

The highest concentration of suspected violations was found in western Slovakia and the regions around Žilina, Prešov, and Košice. Zdechovský added that investigations into other cases will continue.
