Slovak parliament speaker meets German ambassador to deepen bilateral ties

Speaker of Parliament, Richard Raši, received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany, Thomas Kurz, at the Slovak Parliament today.

The meeting took place in a very friendly atmosphere and focused primarily on exchanging views about current challenges in both Slovakia and Germany. Both parties agreed that Slovakia and Germany are among the closest economic partners and allies within the European space.

Speaker Raši reaffirmed Slovakia’s long-term foreign policy alignment within the European Union and NATO, emphasizing the country’s interest in strengthening parliamentary cooperation—especially between parliamentary leaderships, foreign affairs committees, and friendship groups. In this context, he asked the ambassador to convey an official invitation to the newly elected President of the Bundestag, Julia Klöckner, to visit Slovakia.

“Germany is our closest partner, and we are interested in deepening our relations further—politically, economically, and on the parliamentary level,” said Speaker Richard Raši. He also noted that one of Slovakia’s key upcoming topics will be preparing consolidation measures and the state budget for 2026. Ambassador Thomas Kurz expressed a shared view on the quality and importance of bilateral relations and particularly highlighted the significance of parliamentary cooperation, which he said should be intensified.
