The Slovak parliament has approved changes to the Foreigners’ Residence Act that aim to simplify administrative procedures. Foreign nationals will no longer need to submit proof of financial means or photographs when applying for residence, as biometric data is collected directly by the police. The validity of national visas for residence purposes will be extended from 90 to 120 days.
The amendment also allows the government to set annual quotas for temporary residence permits for business purposes. A new provision enables third-country PhD graduates to change their residence purpose directly in Slovakia, with no restriction on where they obtained their degree. The changes are set to take effect on July 1.
