Planned pay raises and attendance policy changes in education

Teachers and other education staff in Slovakia are set to receive salary increases—7% from September and another 5–7% in 2026. A new bonus system based on performance and work quality is also proposed. The Ministry of Education says the goal is to create a more attractive and stable work environment.

A new student absence policy is also in the works. Schools could choose between stricter and more flexible systems based on attendance data. In the flexible regime, schools could excuse up to 10 days per month without a doctor’s note.

Additionally, church school operators will now be exempt from transaction taxes when transferring state funding to their schools.
