To improve the economic and social situation in the districts of Prešov and Sabinov, the Slovak government has allocated over €2.5 million, with more than €2 million earmarked for specific projects by local municipalities in these eastern Slovak regions. The decision was made during Wednesday’s off-site government meeting in Pečovská Nová Ves, Sabinov District.
The government approved €100,000 for furnishing the newly built Church Elementary School in Prešov–Solivar, and €40,000 for implementing ecological measures related to parking solutions at the Prešov amphitheater. An additional €50,000 will go to Veľký Šariš to equip a new kindergarten in the Kanaš district, and the same amount was granted to Podhorany to prepare documentation for a sewage and wastewater treatment project.
Lúčka will receive €40,000 to repair a deteriorating frame bridge in Potoky, while Uzovce is set to gain €35,000 for building a small photovoltaic plant to power the public water supply. Pečovská Nová Ves, which hosted the cabinet session, received €65,000 for constructing a lookout tower. Nižný Hrabovec will use €70,000 to handle an emergency situation and develop a wastewater treatment plant project. A smaller grant of €12,000 was awarded to the Symfónia civic association in Sabinov to support students of the local art school’s dance department and their participation in a European championship.
The resolution includes assignments for individual ministries to implement measures aimed at improving the socio-economic conditions of the region's residents within specified deadlines. A major focus is on transport infrastructure. Minister of Transport Jozef Ráž (Smer-SD nominee) is tasked with completing large-scale repairs on the I/18 road between Branisko, Široké, and Fričovce, and surface repairs on road I/21 in Chmeľov by the end of the year. The ministry must also announce a public tender for the construction of a bridge in Lipany and prepare additional technical project documentation.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for the Environment Tomáš Taraba (SNS nominee) and Minister for Investment, Regional Development, and Digitization Samuel Migaľ (independent) are expected to address funding and development opportunities for sewage and water infrastructure. Minister of Tourism and Sports Rudolf Huliak (independent) will evaluate potential support for building a training hall and renovating the equestrian park in the Prešov Self-Governing Region, while also collaborating with the regional government on the possibility of roofing the velodrome in the area.
