Poll: PS election winner in May, followed by Smer-SD and Hlas-SD

If a parliamentary election had been held in May, it would have been won by the opposition Progressive Slovakia (PS) on 21.5 percent of votes, followed by the senior governing party Smer-SD (19 percent) and junior ruling party Hlas-SD (12.1 percent), according to a recent poll carried out by AKO agency on behalf of Joj 24 television channel.

Ending up fourth would have been the opposition 'Slovakia' party (8.8 percent), followed by the Christian Democrats (KDH - 7.8 percent), extra-parliamentary Republic (7.3 percent) and SaS (7.2 percent).

Parties failing to make it past the 5-percent election threshold would have included the extra-parliamentary Democrats (4.5 percent), the junior governing SNS (4.2 percent), Hungarian Alliance (3.5 percent), Sme rodina (3 percent), and the National Coalition (0.7 percent).

Based on the polls, PS would have garnered 39 seats in Parliament, followed by Smer-SD - 34, Hlas-SD - 21, 'Slovakia' party - 16, KDH - 14, and Republic and SaS - 13 (each).

The poll was carried out on a sample of 1,000 respondents between May 19-26.
