Slovak soldiers to participate in more international exercises

Slovak soldiers will increase their participation in international exercises and operations this year, with the government approving over 100 training exercises in the first half of 2025. In addition, Slovakia has added a new mission in the Western Balkans.

Miroslav Lorinc, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Slovak Armed Forces, explained that collective security efforts are achieved through joint training—both abroad in international exercises and through multinational drills held in Slovakia.

Currently, 150 Slovak soldiers are stationed in the Baltic Sea. This year, another 150 will return to the Serbia-Kosovo border under NATO’s banner after a 15-year absence. Slovak forces will also participate in training exercises in Czechia and Jordan.

"The experience of the war in Ukraine is transforming our understanding of warfare. The Slovak Armed Forces must adapt to new realities," President Pellegrini remarked.

Security expert Radovan Bránik emphasized the importance of learning not only from Ukraine but also from NATO partners like France, who have experience in different types of warfare.

Approximately 500 Slovak soldiers are currently deployed in international operations.
