A supervising prosecutor has ruled that charges pressed in the case of the 2017 abduction of Vietnamese national Trinh Xuan Thanh were unlawful. The charges, related to the suspected misuse of a Slovak government aircraft in the kidnapping, violated the Penal Code and EU legal frameworks.
Thanh, a former Vietnamese official seeking asylum in Germany, was kidnapped from Berlin and taken to Vietnam. Slovak authorities were involved due to the alleged use of a government aircraft. German courts have already convicted individuals involved in the crime.
