Prime Minister praises foreign ministry’s progress on government goals

The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of Slovakia has fulfilled nearly 47% of its tasks from the government’s program statement, progressing fully according to plan, Prime Minister Robert Fico stated after a Wednesday meeting with Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár.

Fico praised the ministry's leadership, calling it an “excellent combination” of officials and thanked them for implementing Slovakia’s foreign policy goals. He highlighted the ministry’s achievements, including the dignified celebration of Slovakia’s 20th EU accession anniversary, the establishment of seven new diplomatic missions, an increased number of economic diplomats, and the creation of an international crisis response center that has already handled 3,700 calls worldwide.

“The ministry has repeatedly proven it takes the motto ‘Slovakia first’ seriously,” Fico said. He dismissed claims that Slovakia is isolating itself diplomatically, noting 71 ministerial trips to 30 countries and ongoing multilateral engagements.

Minister Blanár emphasized future priorities, such as Slovakia’s candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council—with backing from 93 countries so far—negotiations on the next EU budget, and preparations for Slovakia’s 2030 EU Council presidency. He also pointed to expanding visa-free access for Slovak citizens to additional countries.
