EP delegation visiting Slovakia due EU funds transparency

A European Parliament's Committee on Budgetary Control (CONT) delegation is paying a visit to Slovakia, beginning on Monday. During their three-day mission, MEPs will examine the use of European Union (EU) funds and evaluate national measures designed to safeguard EU taxpayers' money.

The four-member delegation will be led by Czech MEP Tomáš Zdechovský (EPP). "We have received troubling reports of alleged misuse of EU funds and breaches of regulations involving senior officials and individuals connected to the Slovak government. These allegations warrant thorough and impartial investigation," said Zdechovský.

The delegation also includes MEPs Michal Wiezik (Renew Europe, Slovakia), Ondřej Knotek (Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats, Czech Republic), and Daniel Freund (Greens/EFA, Germany).

The MEPs will hold meetings with representatives of key state institutions, including the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Investment, Regional Development and Informatisation. They will also meet members of the Parliament, as well as representatives of the Supreme Audit Office, the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Agricultural Payment Agency, and the Government Plenipotentiary for Roma Communities. They will also meet investigative journalists and civil society organisations.
