Slovakia opened its honorary consulate in Thessaloniki, Greece, on May 21, with State Secretary Marek Eštok officiating. The consulate aims to boost economic ties and assist Slovak tourists, as Thessaloniki is a popular destination for Slovaks. The new honorary consul, Dimitrios Papastavrou, will also support the Slovak community in Northern Greece. Eštok emphasized strengthening economic, cultural, and educational cooperation between Slovakia and Greece. During his visit, Eštok met local officials, including Thessaloniki’s mayor, and honored the legacy of Saints Cyril and Methodius, highlighting Thessaloniki’s historical importance to Slovakia. Further talks are planned in Athens with Greek officials to deepen bilateral relations.
