The proposal was approved by the government, which also decided to discuss it under an abbreviated legislative procedure. The conditions for the admission of foreigners will be simplified. This stems from the draft law on the residence of foreigners, which was approved at Wednesday's government meeting.
According to the submitted material, the Ministry of the Interior explained that the goal is to simplify the conditions for admitting foreigners and thereby shorten the duration of the residence procedure. The Ministry stated that the draft law includes the removal of the obligation to provide proof of financial means to cover a foreigner's stay in cases where EU legislation allows this exemption. According to the Ministry, this is a condition that can be verified even after residence has been granted or renewed.
The draft law also introduces the possibility for EU citizens and their family members to submit residence registration applications at any department of the Foreigners’ Police. Currently, applications can only be submitted at the applicant’s place of residence.
