The World Health Organisation (WHO) has approved the pandemic agreement; Slovakia abstained from the vote, which was called for by Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD). Health Minister Kamil Šaško (Hlas-SD) welcomed the fact that Slovakia did not reject the treaty; in his opinion, this creates room for further active steps. The opposition is standing firm in its call for Šaško to resign.
124 states voted in favour of the pandemic agreement–83 votes are needed to pass it. Slovakia abstained along with ten other countries, including Iran, Poland, and Israel. Health Minister Šaško explained that the treaty will continue to be discussed, with Slovakia's participation. In 12 to 18 months it will be finalised, and then it will be time for ratification, which will once again include Slovakia.
